Day 3: 30 Days to a Healthier Summer

It’s Day 3 of our 30 Days to a Healthier Summer series and I hope you’re working in your lemon water and discovering ways to get in your 30 minutes of movement today.

If you can’t possibly fit in 30 consecutive minutes, look for 5 to 10 minute spurts to work it in your day.

Day 3: Read the ingredients on your food packaging.

This was a huge eye opener for me when I began my journey to a less processed life. I had NO CLUE what was in my food and assumed it was safe or it wouldn’t be sold in a store. I pretty much thought if it wasn’t  ice cream, a donut, or candy/dessert type food it was healthy.

Seriously? I know!

For Day 3 make it a point to look through the food and snacks in your pantry and refrigerator.

  1. Are they filled with mainly boxed products?
  2. Are there tons of ingredients in your food?
  3. Is sugar or corn syrup among the first 3 ingredients on most of your food?

If you answered YES, it’s time to stop and think about what’s in the food you’re buying to nourish you and your family.

Notice I didn’t say it’s time to stop, freak out, and begin growing your own food because you’re poisoning yourself and your precious little ones.

That’s how I felt and don’t want you to make the mistake I did.

Once I began looking at the ingredients of things I thought were healthy (like my wheat bread and Lunchables) I was confused.

I bought the same 5 things besides fruits and veggies each week and eventually went back to my old ways for awhile because I was overwhelmed and burnt out.


Once you’ve read the ingredients in your food, notice the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables you have in your kitchen. These don’t require ingredients because they are the ingredient.

These are good.
