Delicious Cabbage Recipe

I joined a great company called Greenling that delivers groceries from local farmers to your doorstep twice a week.  It has pushed me to try new things and use seasonal ingredients in our weekly meals.  Our order last week contained beautiful cabbage.  I haven’t made many cabbage meals so I was a little lost for what to make.

Some of the health benefits of this cruciferous vegetable are:

  1. Relieves Constipation and soreness
  2. Boosts Immune System
  3. Is a source of Amino Acid Glutamine that is believed to help people suffering from inflammation.


I found a great recipe online at and then tweaked it to fit our needs.  This is the result.  It was DELICIOUS!  Our girls ate it up for lunch and my husband and I ate it with our dinner.

Who knew cabbage could be so tasty?!


1/2 head of cabbage
1 sliced onion
2 cloves garlic
6 oz (half pkg.) uncured bacon
olive oil

Cut your cabbage and separate leaves. Steam cabbage. While your cabbage is steaming, saute your onions and garlic and cook your bacon with a little bit of olive oil.  Place all ingredients into a bowl and serve.

I hope you give cabbage a fair shot.  You just may like it!
