I’ve seen many posts about choosing one word for 2016 and decided to choose my word: LIVE! This past year posed many changes: moving full-time to a home on the lake in a quaint town outside of the city limits, transitioning from homeschooling my 3 girls to placing them in public school, oil industry, family and parenting challenges and more.

My view is serene and allows me to sit still and focus while I’m at home alone at times during the day. It’s been so nice to actually stop and think! Have you ever felt like you’re spinning your wheels and don’t every seem to get off the treadmill of life? You’re rushing to run errands, work, clean, work out, then pick up kids (if you’re a parent), race to activities, hurry to make dinner you forgot to prep, then bedtime routine, last minute emails and tidying up and it’s 10:00 p.m.

I hear ya!

I was able to reflect quite a bit towards the end of 2015 and confide in my husband about fears, shortcomings, and unnecessary stresses I’ve placed upon myself to keep up with my martyrdom addiction.

Was it tough to be truthful with myself and face the music? Yes. Am I glad I did it? Double YES!

I chose to become more intentional about thinking about why I’m doing something or what is stopping me from doing something. Is it out of fear? God doesn’t want us to live in fear and I tell my girls this but struggled personally with overcoming the “what if’s”.

  • What if public school doesn’t work out or girls are bullied or don’t pass the STAAR test?
  • What if I don’t lose the extra weight I’ve gained during our move or want to start working out again?
  • What if my blog doesn’t succeed and people don’t like the “unprocessed” me?
  • What if something happens on the flight or trip?
  • What if we don’t like it at our new home that we’ve spent several years renovating?

I could go on but you get the picture. I was nicknamed “worry wart” by friends in high school and thought I had outgrown that title but realized worry had creeped its nasty little way into my life once again.

This year I’m choosing to LIVE and enjoy my life right here right now. Not in a few months after we’re totally moved in and back to “normal”, when I lose the last few pounds, when I feel like a good mom/wife, when the oil industry picks up but now.

L-I-V-I-N: livin’ is what I’ll be up to in 2016.

My word for 2016 is LIVE! What’s yours? Please share with us and inspire others to choose their own word.
