We FINALLY got away for a belated anniversary trip (better late than never) and chose San Diego as our destination after a quick consult with my girlfriends who travel much more than me! My hubby’s been on a few golf trips there and loved the weather so I had to experience it firsthand.
Hotel De Coronado was our original destination but my friend who lived in La Jolla suggested we stay at La Valencia since we would be sans kids this trip and it’s a romantic atmosphere. I’m so glad she told me about this quaint beach town also known as “Jewel City”.
As we stepped out of the airport doors I couldn’t stop grinning. The lack of humidity alone made my trip! I’m a native Houstonian yet every summer when I feel the sweat trickle down my back grumpy mom rears her ugly head.
We checked into our hotel, La Valencia, overlooking La Jolla Cove. Known as the Pink Lady, La V was romantic and charming and just what we were expecting.
The sea lions were hilarious! They playfully rolled over each other and allowed the waves to push them onto the beach and back out again. I will say the sea lion odor isn’t pleasant while walking along the trail but the view is spectacular.
La Jolla Cove
Just a quick stroll from our hotel, La Jolla Cove is beautiful and a must see. You can also kayak there. It was too cold for me so we left water activities for our next trip. We watched several groups go out to the cove and swim to the markers and back again.
You can step onto the sand and get up close personal to the sea lions or watch the action from the trail. A great way to end each night of your visit. There are benches and look out points along the cove and the trail.
The view is awesome from atop La Jolla Cove. The sea bird poop not so much. But, hey, give and take!
This Texas girl has found a new love and left a piece of my heart in La Jolla.
